Concept:
The concept is to create an internet startup in a long weekend. Gather a group of enthusiastic people who are all founders of the startup that will work to launch the startup prototype over the Labor day long weekend. You may ask why this is being done. It is to get a bunch of super enthusiastic people together and try to transform an idea into a product and eventually a business.
Who can participate?
Enthusiastic, no-nonsense people that think they have what it takes to last a long 48 hour drill. Hey - there will be no time for office politics for sure.
Anyone that meets the need described in the "Register Now" section above and lives and works around Los Angeles, California. Sorry, you need to be local to carry this forward.
Idea for the startup
The idea for the startup will be decided on the day of the startup by the founding team together. Please send your ideas ahead of time and we will compile them for review on the first day. However here are a few basic rules to consider:
a) It should be something you do offline today that can be done better online.
b) Do not copy something that has been done before. We are not going to create a youtube copy all over again.
c) The prototype has to be launched in 2 days. So it cannot be an idea that needs 321 days of research before something can be done with it.
d) Do not limit your idea to a very small niche - if only just some hackers use it, it is not a viable long term business. Note: it can still be a niche segment, just large enough to be interesting.
Who will own it?
All founders will have equal share. Decision making will be done with a majority vote win within the group.
Technology
The startup will be built on LAMP (P = PHP or Perl or Python or even Ruby). You may ask why? Because it is free to launch and will have more developers available to work on the startup.
How can we launch in 2 days?
Yes, there certainly are challenges. But that is the fun part isn't it. So gear up for 48 hours of non-stop challenges and fun. Still interested, then sign up before all slots fill up.
What will happen after the labor day weekend?
We will spend a few hours on the last day to determine just that. Options are really simple:
a) Abandon it as a fun test
b) Pursue it further to make it a real company
c) Some people go with option (a) and some with option (b)
Ok - what about the basic necessities - you know food and sleep.

What do I need to get with me?
a) A laptop with wireless access.
b) Comfortable clothes
c) Some food money
d) All your energy and enthusiasm.
Role definitions
Server side development - PHP, MySQL - These people will be responsible for all server side development of the product and all the PHP/MySQL code.
Client side development - Javascript, AJAX, CSS etc. - These people will assist the server side developers with client side code.

Creative (Design and User experience) - These people will be responsible for UI design of the product and making it look good for visitors.
